Will my horses forelock look the same when it grows back?

How long will it take for my horse's forelock to grow back? Will it look the same? It sounds horrible, but I had to cut my gorgeous Arab gelding's forelock totally off because we were away for 2 days and when we got back he looked like Coolio. There were burrs EVERYWHERE on him! I got the ones out of his mane and tail, but I absolutely could not get the ones out of his forelock. I even tried Show Sheen and they wouldn't come out. So...I cut his forelock off and it came off in one big chunk. So now he looks like an Ahkal Teke horse with horrible conformation. He looks so funny. And get this...the lady who sold him to us still absolutely adores him and she's coming over to go on a long trail ride with me at the break of spring. Of course I couldn't tell her what I did to my poor, funny looking horse. How long will it take to grow back? What can I do to make this happen faster?
