Why do republicans cry out about how much it costs when the Queen visits, but when Oprah's here, not a peep?
Oprah visited in December last year. The Australian Government paid $3 million to lure her here then gave her the status of 'visiting head of state' so that she could use the police as a private security force, all at no cost to her of course. Qantas then flew all her audience members here for free (FREE???). Poor Oprah, she's only one of the richest people in the world but poor thing, can't afford to pay for her own travel and security. Then the NSW Government plasters a mive O on the Habour Bridge, and renames the Opera House the Oprah House (yes I'm ******** serious!). When the Queen comes here however, it's a different story. She's only the Australian Monarch, Queen of Australia and our Head of State, but when she's here the republicans are up in arms, lamenting about how much the security costs are, how she shouldn't be here, she's not relevant, but when Oprah, the 'Queen of Television' is here, a woman irrelevant to Australian society, they don't say a bloody thing. It makes me really ******** mad. Don't get me wrong, I like Oprah and think she's really nice, but I don't see why she shouldn't pay for her own arrangements and, if people find it acceptable for the Aus Government to pay for them (which is their right) , they bloody well should find it acceptable for the Aus Government to pay for Her Majesty, the Queen of Australia to visit when she's rudely only invited once every blue moon.
