Severe pain before and during period?

I had a tubal ligation done almost 6 years ago an since then my periods have gotten very painful and very heavy, I had some cramps before but now a couple of days before I start hurting in my thighs and knees and it gradually moves up to my stomach (I feel like I'm having a miscarriage), on the day my period starts I hurt so bad that i feel like I'm in preterm labor, it hurts from my belly on down to my knees and I get really sick, I feel like I'm gong to throw up. Does this have any thing to do with the tubal ligation or what is it anybody know?
